Are You Really That Busy?

A friend asked me, “Are you busy this week?”

I said, “Not really.”

He looked surprised. “How can you not be busy? I'm swamped!”

I asked, “Really? Are you that busy?”

Is every task truly urgent?
Is everything truly your responsibility?
Are you really that important?

He paused for a moment and said, “Now that you mention it… maybe not.”

But the truth is —

Most of us are afraid to admit we're not busy.

Because saying “I'm not busy” feels like saying “I'm doing nothing”,
and somehow, that feels shameful.

If others are busy and I'm not,
does that make me the one who's falling behind?

Why do I have to be busy?

This culture of fake busyness — both in the East and West — runs deep.

We're not busy for productivity.
We're busy to look valuable.

But the truth is —

Most things don't really need to be done.
Most people don't really need to be met.
Most words don't really need to be said.

If you forget something, maybe it wasn't important.
If someone drifts away, maybe they were never meant to stay.
Some of your busyness is just anxiety in disguise.

Sometimes, not being busy doesn't mean you have nothing to do —
It means you've finally realized:

Not everything is worth doing.
Not every rhythm is yours to follow.

Find your own pace.
Your heart already knows the answers.
You don't need to seek them outside.
